Central Connecticut State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Art & Design.
The candidate will be integral to maintaining, developing, and innovating a contemporary and inclusive approach to the Art Education program and curriculum. This includes keeping abreast of contemporary art education theories and practices and preparing students for the professional requirements in Connecticut teaching certification.
The candidate will be critical in continuing and maintaining coordination between the Department, the School of Education and Professional Studies (SEPS), and the Connecticut State Board of Teacher Certification to ensure effective compliance and completion of all university and Connecticut state regulations for Central students to achieve state teacher certification. The person will work with SEPS and multiple public education districts to help coordinate teaching field experiences and student-teaching placements.
The candidate will provide advising and support to Art Education, BSEd, Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate student candidates from application through degree completion, filling the role of Graduate Program Coordinator.
The candidate will be active in collaborating with other colleagues, part-time and full-time, who teach foundation, studio, and design courses. This person will also work with the Saturday Arts Workshop teaching program which engages the New Britain community in developing and teaching courses offered to New Britain public and private school students in K-12 grades and promotes visibility for the Department of Art & Design as well as the University in general. This program introduces young, potential students to the resources and benefits provided by Central and the Department in addition to providing our Art Education undergraduate and post-baccalaureate with the opportunity of instructing and educating students in real time.

Compensation and Employee Benefits
In accordance with the Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Collective Bargaining Union Contract, compensation for this position is at the rank of Assistant Professor for 2023-2024. Required Qualifications
D or Ed. D in Art Education or MFA in related field (ABD candidates will be considered if they provide evidence of anticipated completion of degree by the date of appointment, August 2024.)
College/University teaching experience: at least 1 year or comparable experience as TA or adjunct
Minimum 3 years-experience as a PreK-12 public school teacher
Familiarity with state standards governing teacher education and licensure including EdTPA
Research contributions (including but not limited to scholarly publications) that respond to contemporary perspectives in art education
Working knowledge of state and national visual arts standards, lesson planning, assessment, and classroom management
Record of contribution to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship and service
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years as a PreK-12 public school teachers that includes at least one year teaching at the elementary level (PreK-6)
Strong exhibition record of art-making
Curatorial experience in a gallery, museum, or publishing environment
