The School of Art and Visual Studies at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a non-tenure track 9-month Lecturer of Art Education with an initial one-year appointment with possibility of ongoing renewal. This position will begin August 2024, eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer after five years of continuous service. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester and provide service to the school, college, and university. Projected distribution of effort would be 75% teaching and 25% service.
The successful candidate will be a vital contributor to building an art education community of creative and innovative art teachers and researchers at the School of Art & Visual Studies. They should be well versed in digital and multimedia pedagogical tools used in art education settings in addition to working with diverse social, cultural, and financial demographics of students. The successful candidate will contribute innovative ideas based on theory, pedagogy, visual art concepts towards the advancement of the art education discipline. They will work closely with undergraduate students seeking licensure in art education. The candidate will be a direct liaison to the K-12 art teachers within Lexington and across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, finding placements for, working with, and supervising art education students in field experiences and student teaching.
Candidates must hold a MA in Art Education or a MFA. Ph.D. and ABD candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have at minimum one year of teaching art in a PK-12 public school classroom. An ideal candidate will also have some college level teaching experience.
