Full-Time Faculty Position in Art Education
Herron School of Art and Design seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor in Art Education. We invite and welcome those with a passion for teaching and a desire to join and contribute to the ongoing growth and excellence of this established and well-respected BAE program. We are looking for colleagues who are committed to this field of study and in continuing our work to build upon and sustain an exceptional and unique program committed to expanding the field and championing students as they begin and advance along their academic and professional journeys.
This position is ideal for individuals that are engaged in teaching, scholarship of teaching, and research that focuses on contemporary theory and practice, social justice, anti-racist pedagogies, partnerships with urban communities and schools, and critical perspectives in education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate art education classes, teaching or contributing to the student teaching seminar, assisting in coordinating part-time faculty to instruct art methods courses for elementary pre-service teachers, advising and mentoring students, establishing and maintaining external relationships with PK-12 public schools, and aiding recruitment efforts. In addition, faculty members are supported as they maintain an active program of research/creative activities and publications and embrace service roles that contribute to the success of the school, university, community, and the field. Opportunities exist for interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching/research across studio and art history programs and other university departments, study abroad courses, and engagement with art museums and other institutions.

Art Education Program Profile
The Art Education Program at Herron has over 60 majors with an active NAEA student organization and innovative community learning programs. Our alumni are active across that state and country and have a growing impact on the field. Herron provides our faculty with a unique academic environment that balances many of the qualities of a smaller, private art school with the resources and opportunities of a larger research university. This creates a professional community where colleagues from all areas of our school are engaged and committed to work that contributes to the advancement of contemporary theory and practice in their fields. This also creates a truly fertile atmosphere where abundant opportunities exist to develop rich, collaborative relationships with faculty from across other academic units, the surrounding urban and rural communities, and the larger professional field.
Responsibilities:
Engage students in practices and dialogue that are relevant within the context of contemporary art
Contribute to student recruitment and advising
Establish and coordinate practicum experience with community partners
Demonstrate a commitment to community and socially engaged practices including community engaged pedagogy
Pursue scholarly, creative, and professional research activities
Serve and participate in committees and departmental events that contribute to the mission of the School of the University
Contribute to the diversity of the school by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or unique set of experiences that expands the intellectual conversation of the field
