Essential Functions: The College of Education at Wayne State University invites applications for a Lecturer and Program Coordinator in Art Education. To begin in Fall 2019, the successful candidate will join the Division of Teacher Education that attracts faculty, staff, and students committed to urban education and social justice. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position.Essential Functions:Teach and develop Art Education undergraduate and graduate courses, and in-service initiatives for PK-12 educators.Serve as program coordinator of Art Education, and lead the innovation, continuous improvement, and assessment of the program.Advise, mentor, and help recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate students.Recruit, retain, and evaluate part-time faculty teaching and coaching in Art Education.Serve as a coach/supervisor for clinical experiences, and help to identify other clinical coaches and placement sites.The successful candidate will contribute to a strong tradition of preparing art teachers and art education professionals and researchers. The program offers initial teaching certification in visual arts education through bachelor's (BS) and Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) degrees, and a master's degree in Art Education (M.Ed.) for certified teachers. With appropriate credentials, the candidate may also participate in the Art Therapy program and/or the PhD program in Educational Studies.Located in the cultural center of Detroit midtown, Wayne State University (WSU) is within walking distance of major museums, theaters, and music venues. It is one of only two public urban universities with the highest possible designation for both Research and Community Engagement from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. WSU's 200-acre campus is home to 13 schools and colleges and nearly 28,000 students. WSU offers over 350 academic programs across the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Qualifications: Master's in Education, Teacher Education, or Curriculum & Instruction, with a specialization in Art Education or Visual Art Education. Candidates with terminal MFA degree or Art Therapy degree, and teaching certification are considered.Minimum of three years of experience teaching diverse students in PK-12 school contexts.
